June 2008
Flows are staying high--the Corn Creek ramp level was beyond ten feet on the 22nd of May. Flows are now in the five foot range on the ramp as of June 10th. HERE is a link to the hydrological forecast for river flows at Salmon, Idaho and Whitebird. The "feet" listed on this web page is NOT the Corn Creek ramp level, but is useful because it predicts if the river will rise or fall... A good generalization for CFS at Corn Creek is to half the amount listed for the Whitebird gage.

Beaches should be large and plentiful this year with the high water.

February 2008
Currently the Salmon River is at 116% of average snowpack so it should be a good water year!

Big changes in the river canyon. Newt and Sharon, caretakers of Yellow Pine Bar for the past thirty-odd years, moved to Caldwell, Idaho
last fall so Sharon can have closer access to health care. Both are in good spirits and they seemed to have settled into their new home. Greg and Sue Metz, former caretakers of Indian Creek Ranch have moved to Yellow Pine Bar. Since Newt and Sharon are no longer living at Yellow Pine Bar, the handcrafted wood items are of course no longer available there. Note these changes in the descriptions for Yellow Pine Bar and Indian Creek Ranch.

Camps
Due to lower than average peak flows this year, many of the major beaches in the canyon are currently smaller and/or steeper than they typically develop. Many of the minor beaches, especially below the confluence with the South Fork, are simply non-existant this year. Plan accordingly.
